Subscription billing abroad: auto-renewal and refunds are a compliance hotspot
Subscriptions are the SaaS model — and the part consumer-protection regulators watch most closely.
Subscriptions and auto-renewal are core to SaaS, but also a focus of many markets' consumer-protection rules: a prominent reminder before renewal, an easy cancellation path, clear price and cycle disclosure, and a statutory cooling-off or refund right.
The problem is usually not the product but 'how you notify and how users cancel'. Poor design can draw regulatory attention or mass complaints, hitting conversion and retention directly.
The pragmatic approach is to make these rules the product's default flow, configured per market, rather than one globally uniform renewal logic.
